Learning to Shoot

Blue Yarn with Bright Background 2*

Saturday was beautiful in my corner of New England. Humidity was low; sunshine was high. The jaunt to Webs along back roads was a little slow because of numerous fairs and farmer’s markets, but that is the kind of traffic that doesn’t make me angry. Why head to Webs on one of the prettiest days of the year?

Gale Zucker. That’s why.

Yarn on Rusty Beams 2*

I’ve admired Gale’s photography for years. She makes fiber look amazing, and when the chance to work with her appeared, I couldn’t sign up fast enough. I am friendly with my camera, but I’m about as amateur as one can be. I mess around, but up until Saturday, I lacked confidence. I didn’t know how to create the shot that was in my head.

Practice, experiment, study. That’s my mission with my camera from now on. In three hours, I gained so much knowledge, and I’m excited to apply it.

Shawl in Shade 2*

I’ve signed up for a second class at Webs with Gale. If you have the chance to work with her, do so! Even if, like me, you simply want nicer pictures for your blog, you’ll find working with a professional worth it.

* The orange and blue yarns are my handspun. The purple yarn is courtesy of Jessica. I did not write down the name of my classmate who knit the fabulous shawl, but let’s all admire it just the same!

  1. I hosted a class with Gale at the library a while back and it was awesome. I learned a lot and would love to take another class with her at some point.

  2. Your shots came out great!! I haven’t had much chance to play with the ones I took at the class because I’ve been *trying* to apply what I learned to the business stuff. The fabric background bit seems to have been the most helpful for me so far. See you at the next one and hope we can chat more then!
