Haunted by Gauge

You know I have gauge issues.  You’ve read about my quest to avoid little tiny needles when sock knitting, my triumph with English knitting.  I now have pretty spot on gauge.  Bully for Beverly, right?

Wrong.

I’ve pulled out the somewhat sickeningly pink Clapotis, and just noticed that my gauge is much tighter than when I worked on her last summer.  I tried to go back to Continental, but still, the gauge was tighter.  Smart cookie that I am, I changed to a larger sized needle.  Here’s hoping.  By the way, I’m not ripping out the smaller gauged rows.  I’m not going to do it.  It would look better, I know.  I want a visual of my knitting growth, though.  Really, it’s not just an excuse.

  1. If it helps, you’re not alone with the gauge issues. I may be knitting that cardi a size larger since I can’t get near the right gauge. 😕
The only thing that matters is that you’re happy with it, sweetie.

  2. Don’t rip. You are on to the right idea. bigger needles. FIne. Sometimes those who rip just never finish. Remember, a man on a horse can’t see it, and a man on foot has no business looking.
Did you email me about the Noro I am short on?

  3. Don’t rip, just keep on trucking with it. Someday when you wear it you can look at the different stitches and remember the different things you were doing when your gauge was like that.

  4. Ah. This just means that you and I will be *true* Clapotis twins at Rhinebeck… Mine starts out waaaay bigger and then becomes snug as it progresses… I have decided that it adds personality. Yes. That’s it. 🙂
She’ll look fantastic – no worries!
