Le Tour de Fleece–Yellow Jersey for Moi

I did it.  I spun enough sockweight yarn for a pair of socks.  I want to spin a little extra to be sure that my 6 ozs. won’t leave me short (although I’ve been assured that 8 oz. is enough for knee-hi socks).  And I’ll need to ply this yarn o’ mine.

I was away for most of the Tour, unable to spin.  More than anything, the Tour has been a great way for me to get Zinnia out of her bag and spinning. Thanks, Katherine, for organizing this–it’s really helped me to feel more confident as a spinner.

On a totally different note, I’m watching Something’s Gotta Give on tv.  I wanted to see it lo those many years ago in the theater, but it was sold out the night I went.  Diane Keaton’s character just had a mad crying jag, which got me to thinking about how awful such jags are.  Then I thought about the (luckily) few times I’ve had them:  when a good friend of mine died in a motorcycle crash and when my ex asked me for a divorce.  Not bad for a girl in her thirties.  There have been other things to make me sad, but those have been the only two to produce full out wailing in me.  And both jags happened in my same Peekskill, NY, apartment.  I sometimes think that places have a spiritual energy, take up our energy as we live there.  My NM apartment, for example, has an energy of creation and healing to me.  And the house I’m learning to consider mine has a rock-like stability to me.  What energy does your home have?

While in Taos, in between doting on Tiwa and dancing with handsome men in hats (oh, yeah, and some writing) I visited La Lana Wool.  I purchased two skeins of their handspun, plant dyed "forever random" blend.  Wanna see?

Img_1046 These lovelies came with some tempting free "one skein" patterns.  The yarn is outside my usual price range, so it’s nice to have some good patterns to show off my splurge.

  1. The vibe here makes me uncomfortable. I can’t put my finger on it, but something not good happened here at some point.
I love that yarn. Good splurge, Bev! Oh, and I wanna see your yarn, too, please.

  2. Congrats on the yellow jersey. I want to see your yarn too, please. And La Lana, yummmmm.
I agree with you about places and energy. Maybe I need to move–mine’s got plenty of bad.

  3. I absolutely agree that places have spiritual energy. My current apartment is an energy vampire. Peekskill? You didn’t live too far from where I live now (with Taos as a reference point) in Beekman/Poughquag.

  4. My house has an overwhelming sense of comfort. I am still living with my parents while I wait for my condo to be built, my sister and her husband moved in while they both go back to school and start new careers so the whole family is here.
We have lived here since I was five…I am now 27 and I always love to come home. My family are my absolute best friends. I am kind of nervous to get my condo because I will be leaving this house and I love it here, but it is time to move on.
I think I needed to get that off my chest…thanks.

  5. Congrats on spinning the sock yarn. How long did it take you from the time you learned to spin until you were able to spin sock yarn? Can we see a picture of it??? Pretty Please???

  6. Oh I’ve had my share of crying jags. A couple of them were for things that are just too personal to put out here but my most recent was when Dad was diagnosed. Thankfully RR just hangs on for the ride ’til I’m done sobbing – the hugs help :o)
Congrats on spinning enough for socks! I just started knitting my handspun for the first time and it’s SO. COOL.
